The Associated Press reports that former Northern Westchester Hospital tech Kristen Diane Parker could get 20 years in prison for tampering with a consumer product and deceptively obtaining a controlled substance. Parker was reported to have infected three dozen people in Colorado with hepatitis C. She also may have exposed thousands of people in that area.
In an interview with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jaime Pena, Parker said that "I can't ask for forgiveness," and that she didn't expect anyone to do so.
According to the report, Parker admitted to stealing syringes that contained Fentanyl while she was employed at the Colorado Springs' Audubon Surgery Center and the Denver's Rose Medical Center. She then injected herself with the Fentanyl and replaced it with saline.
Parker told prosecutors for the case that she started her routine while working at Northern Westchester Hospital, where she worked at from October 2007 to February 2008. However, she said that she replaced the original Fentanyl -filled syringes with new ones that were filed with saline, instead of reusing them.
While 2,800 were told to get tested, a spokesman for the hospital said in an October press statement that the hospital doesn't believe anyone get infected from Parker.
