Bedford Police: Husband Arrested After Wife Texts for Help
The domestic incident occurred Tuesday.
The following information was compiled from Bedford police reports. This report is in no way a complete summary of police activity and is provided at the discretion of the Bedford Police Department.
A husband was arrested for striking his wife and causing injuries to her lip and tongue Tuesday night, according to police reports.
Jose Elias Morales, 41, allegedly struck his wife around 11 p.m. on Aug. 31. His wife used a cell phone to text her friend for help. Her friend then called the police department, around 11:20 p.m., and officers were dispatched to their home on Robinson Avenue in Bedford Hills.
Police said that the officers broke up the couple, and removed Morales from the scene. Morales was kept overnight in a cel at the Bedford police department, arraigned by Bedford town Judge Erik Jacobsen the next morning and charged with assault in the third degree and intent to cause physical injury.
An order of court protection was issued, preventing Morales from seeing his wife. Morales was released on $500 bail and is due to appear in Bedford town court Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.
His wife refused medical treatment at the scene and is recovering from minor injuries.
Two car break-ins reported on Elm Road in Katonah
On Aug. 26 at around 9:49 p.m., a homeowner on Elm Road reported that someone had broken into their unlocked Subaru Legacy, which was parked in the driveway. Loose changed was allegedly stolen from that car.
Later that night, another break-in was reported on the same residential street, on a Honda Insight.
Bedford police investigated and issued a reminder to residents to lock car doors, and remove all valuables from the car. The department made a few extra patrol runs but no other break-ins have been reported in the area.
