Civil War-Era Comedy Sketch to Film in Bedford

The filming will take place at Maple Grove Farm.

The Whitest Kids U' Know, a comedy troupe starring in an Independent Film Channel original sketch comedy series, is set to film an upcoming episode at the home of George and Shirley Bianco in Bedford, following the town board approval of their three-day shoot beginning July 29.

This episode takes a humorous look at the Civil War. If that confuses, you should know that these kids are self-described as "crossing the line…with sardonic, salty humor cracks on politics, gender, race and sex," according to their website.

They perform skits in the vein of Kids in the Hall, a comedy troupe popular in the 80s, according to Jason McCauley, location manager for LC Inc., who appeared before the town board to obtain permission for the shoot.

The episode will be filmed over three days from from 7 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. and is not expected to disrupt any area traffic, said McCauley. He asked that the board consider their application under an agency advertising fee of $1,250 given that the overall season has a budget of only approximately $150,000.

"It's more like a student film than a big budget movie," he said. One passenger van and a few rental trucks will be on hand but no town roads are planned to be used during the filming.

The town approved the shoot for the flat fee, though the town ordinance normally requires per-day fees for multi-day shoots. Town Attorney Nancy Tagliafierro recommended the approval, given past exceptions made for other groups.

The show features cast members Darren Trumeter, Sam Brown, Trevor Moore, Timmy Williams and Zach Cregger. This is the fifth season of the IFC show.

McCauley said that most of the background actors have been selected, though he might have a few spaces left for extras. But, he cautioned, they would not be able to accommodate requests to come on the set from gawkers and passers-by.

"Because of the nature of this period piece, and the tight time constraints, it would interfere with the shoot," he said.

The Bianco property was also used for the 2009 filming of Morning Glory, a Paramount Pictures film starring Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams. McCauley was also on the location staff for that film, due in theatres November 12.
