Eight Great Non-Profits Making a Difference

A tribute to the charitable organizations that are making a big difference in our community and our lives.

This week’s Patch Picks is a tribute to the charitable organizations that are making a big difference in our community and lives.  We asked local philanthropists to help us identify the powerhouse charities around Bedford, Katonah, Mount Kisco, and Chappaqua, and came up with the following list.

We know that this list is just the tip of the iceberg, so post a message and let us know about your favorite non-profit charity.

Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester

Why we admire them:  For providing access to supervised recreation, physical instruction, educational programs, cultural programs and social programs for all of the Northern Westchester County’s youths, regardless of their socioeconomic situations.

A-Home

Why we admire them:  For providing safe, affordable rental housing for seniors, disabled individuals, and single-parent families in Northern Westchester County.

Ability Beyond Disability

Why we admire them: For providing 56 years of service in support of the adult disabled population, assisting them to live with dignity, independence and hope.

The Women's Civic Club of Katonah

Why we admire them: For being the largest individual contributor to the Bedford Village, Bedford Hills, and Katonah Libraries. Read more about them here.

Community Center of Northern Westchester

Why we admire them:  For taking care of our neighbors in need by providing food, clothing, and educational and social services.

Peter C. Alderman Foundation

Why we admire them: For providing help to victims  of  terrorism  and  mass violence by training health care professionals and establishing clinics in post-conflict countries around the globe.

Katonah Museum of Art

Why we admire them:  For bringing the community diverse art exhibitions that explore ideas about art, culture, and society and for being the only interactive space in the community where children can come on a daily basis to explore, interpret, and create art.

Friends of Karen

Why we admire them: For providing emotional, financial and advocacy support to children with life-threatening illnesses.
