Garden Tour and Expo a Success

The Bedford Garden Club's first-ever Veg Out drew 250 people.

You didn't need to have a green thumb to enjoy the Bedford Garden Club's "Veg Out!" last week.

In fact, the event was designed to inspire both veteran vegetable planters and garden newbies. By offering a glimpse into ten area vegetable gardens, and featuring the Intergenerate teaching garden at John Jay Homestead, guests picked up tips on everything from when, how, and what to plant in their own backyards.

At the main event at the John Jay Homestead, shoppers perused a farmer's market featuring local breads, vegetables, gardening products, jams, preservative-free soaps and even vegetable-themed jewelry.

An educational expo featured lessons on chickens and coops, composting with worms and bee ecology.

A list and description of the participating gardens, with directions, was handed to guests. Click on the video posted with this article for some highlights of the event.

Proceeds from the event will help fund the Mount Kisco Elementary School garden.
