Hundreds of Firefighters Gather For Annual Lt. Andy Fredericks Memorial Event
Lt. Frederick's son, a Suffern firefighter, attended the event.
More than 400 firefighters from the region gathered at the Tarrytown Marriott Hotel on Saturday for the 11th Annual Lt. Andy Fredericks Memorial Seminar and Exhibit. Included in the crowd was 19-year-old Suffern firefighter Andrew Fredericks, who was 9 years old when his father was killed.
"I spent a day at another FDNY house when I was 14. I was with Lt. Brian Curid who showed me around and that's what made me want to become a firefighter," Fredericks said.
The seminar included two presentations by FDNY officers meant to educate those in the crowd on firefighting tactics and safety. There were also exhibits of emergency service products by dozens of vendors.
Proceeds of the event go to three charities, including the Lt. Andy Fredericks Scholarship Fund, Burn Care Everywhere and the New York State Firemen's Home.
