John Jay Homestead Farm Market Re-Opens Saturday With 13 New Vendors

The farm market at John Jay Homestead that became instantly popular with locals last year in its re-opens on Saturday with 13 new vendors, according to market manager, Jennifer Gordon.

"Each new vendor was hand selected to complement the ones we already had," she said. New sellers include Chutney Masala of Irvington, Doc Pickle of Paterson, NJ, Flour Power Bakery of Livingston Manor and Ronnybrook Dairy of Ancramdale.

“So many people have asked me what sets us apart from all the other farmer’s markets and my answer is still the same. We have continued to embrace and honor the small, local farmer, whose farms are literally miles from the site, and they remain the core of the John Jay Homestead Farm Market," said Gordon.

The core farms include Amawalk Farm of Katonah, Amba Farm of Bedford Hills, Cabbage Hill Farm of Mount Kisco, I & Me Farms of Mount Kisco, JD Farms of Brewster, Mobius Fields of Waccabuc and Tiny Hearts Farm of Poughquag.

In a geographic area that supports several other successful farm markets and stands—including , and , among others—the market at the homestead managed to draw over 20,000 people in its first year, said Gordon.

The market runs through October and will feature  fruit, produce (including heirloom varieties) flowers, baked goods (including gluten-free), cheeses and dairy products, wines, meats and fresh seafood, prepared food and an array of hand-crafted condiments and local and regional products.

Also new for this year, visitors can take guided tours during market hours of the historic grounds and former home of statesman John Jay, the first chief justice of the United States and the second governor of New York. The market will also partner with local nonprofits and feature live entertainment including Les Tappan Zigues. Free children’s craft programs will be offered on selected dates during the farm market hours.

What to know before you go:

• This week the featured vendors are a farmstead cheese producer, Amazing Real Live Food Co. and Ronnybrook Dairy Farm. In addition, there will be a variety of organic & conventional fruit, produce, gluten-free baked goods, artisanal baked items, bread, wine, meats, seafood, prepared foods, as well as an assortment of hand-crafted specialty items.
• From 11-1pm, Chef Maria Reina, of Bella Cucina Maria, will be doing a cooking demo, using Smoked Rainbow Trout from Cabbage Hill Farm, and Fifty-Two Pickup will be performing their eclectic mix of country, rock and blues.
• The Katonah Village Library will be a guest of the market, doing a Katonah Trivia Quiz, as well as their Summer Reading Game.
• For some family fun visit the Summer Kitchen Discovery Center and help churn some butter, participate in a scavenger hunt or a craft activity. This free walk-in program is for children ages 3-10 and they must be accompanied by an adult.
• Tours of the Historic House are available on the hour beginning at 10:00 am and ending at 4:00pm.
