Katonah Youth Busted for Hosting Underage Drinking Party

A 19-year-old Katonah resident faces first-degree charges of unlawfully dealing with a child after allegedly being found serving alcohol to minors in his Jay Street home.

Bedford police responded at 9:52 p.m. on Sept. 30 to a noise complaint from on Jay Street, phoned in by a neighbor who also complained of a suspicious vehicle on the street.

When they arrived, police said they found a group of youths ages 15 - 18, having a party and drinking. Officers reported seeing bottles of Budweiser beer and open bottles of liquor in plain view. At least seven youths were detained by police and picked up by their parents from the home.

The man charged also faces two violations under New York's ABC laws, for possessing alcohol under the age of 21 and providing it to underage drinkers.

Bedford police arrested four drivers last week in separate incidents:

Sarah Ponte, a 23-year-old Bedford resident was arrested on Sept. 27 and charged with third-degree unlicensed operation of a car and operating a car with a suspended registration. Her car was tagged by the police license plate reader patrol car and police pulled her over on Bedford Road near Haines Road. She was released without bail pending an appearance to town court. 

John Flaherty, a 44-year-old New York City resident, was arrested on Sept. 28 and charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a car and speeding on Cross River Road in Katonah. He was observed allegedly driving 60 mph in a 45 mph zone, and a computer check revealed he had no license. He was released on $200 bail pending an appearance in town court. 

Barry Wiseman was arrested on Sept. 28 and charged with speeding and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a car on South Bedford Road in Bedford Hills. The 65-year-old Mt. Kisco man was caught allegedly speeding during a radar enforcent operation near West Patent Road. A computer check revealed his driving suspensions; he was released without bail pending a return to court. 

Christopher Mann, a 32-year-old Mahopac man was arrested on Sept. 30 and charged with operating a car with a suspended registration. His car was tagged by the license plate reader and a computer check confirmed his suspensions. He was released without bail pending his return to town court.
