Onlooker Charged with Drug Possession

The information below was provided by the Bedford Police Department and does not indicate a conviction.

A North Salem teen who approached Bedford police while they were investigating a matter on Holly Branch Road in Katonah ended up being arrested himself.

The 18-year-old approached police officers at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 4. From his car, the youth asked what police were doing in the area. The officers said they noticed he had enlarged pupils and had trouble maintaining focus on their conversation.

After detecting a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, the officers asked him to step outside of his car. The youth failed field sobriety tests and then refused to take a pre-screen test. When police asked him if he possessed anything illegal, he responded by yelling that police could search his car. The police search turned up a small amount of marijuana.

The teen was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, driving while intoxicated/ability impaired by drugs and refusing a pre-screen test. He was released without bail pending a return to town court.

Bail jumper turns himself in

A Lincolndale man surrendered to the Bedford town court, facing bail jumping and aggravated driving charges related to his arrest over a year ago.

Keith Dondl, 35, was arrested Dec. 16, 2010 and charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor, and unlicensed operation and driving with an expired inspection sticker, both violations.

He made his first court appearance in Dec. 2010, saying he would act as his own lawyer when he went to trial in Bedford. At the time, Judge Erik Jacobsen entered a pro forma not guilty plea on his behalf and Assistant District Attorney Stefanie DeNise said there would be no offer to reduce the charges in exchange for a guilty plea.

Dondl failed to make an appearance in Feb. 2011, leading to charges of bail jumping filed by the district attorney's office. An active warrant for his arrest was issued in May 2011. He turned himself in on Feb. 2.

Sleepy Hollow resident charged with speeding

Dominie Garcia, 23, was observed by Bedford police driving 51 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone on Route 117 in Bedford Hills. A computer check showed 7 previous suspensions.

Garcie was arrested on Feb. 3 and charged with second degree aggravated unlicensed operation and speeding. He was released on $100 bail pendiing a return to town court.

"A computer check showed 7 previous suspensions."

At this point this citizens should consider walking. Though I fear she would be charged with a moving violation.

Gosh, you might be right Joe! Earlier today I saw a driver, near the Katonah Shopping Center, holding the steering wheel with his left hand, phone in the right hand. Eyes on the phone. Getting scary out there!

A vehicle is as dangerous as an unsecured weapon. When you turn that key you are cocking a gun, when you steer it you are aiming it, if you aim it improperly you are going to kill some poor @#$%@% that doesn't deserve it. Can't see how one can do that and use a telephone at the same time.

That's almost a direct quote from the old man. When he was first teaching me to drive on Todd Road. Put both hands on the dashboard and said . . .

"OK . . . go . . ."
