Patch Picks: The Best Burgers in Town
If you can’t stand the "summer" heat, get out of the kitchen and over to one of these tasty burger joints.
As the summer starts to sizzle, and the thought of spending any time in an overheated kitchen becomes unbearable, there is something very satisfying about ordering-up a perfect burger. That’s why this week's Patch Picks focuses on the best burgers. From simple and classic to fancy gourmet, we’ve found the best burger joints in town.
Enjoy a burger out, or order your burgers to go – but, with so many great burgers to try, definitely don't get stuck in the kitchen if you can’t stand the heat.
Oliver’s Gourmet Burgers (128 Bedford Road, Katonah): Oliver’s offers a wide variety of creative culinary takes on the the average patty of grilled beef. Our favorite, the Parisian Burger is 10 ounces of prime angus beef topped with creamy spinach artichoke spread, melted brie cheese, and frizzled onions – all served on an onion brioche roll. If you prefer white meat to beef, Oliver’s has an equally extensive selection of delicious homemade chicken burgers.
Blue Dolphin’s Classic Burger (175 Katonah Avenue, Katonah): The Blue Dolphin Café’s no-nonsense burger is juicy and perfect in its simplicity. This no bells-and-whistles burger – which is a great choice for the burger-lover who craves a simple, classic hamburger – comes with pickles on the side, and cheese upon request.
Johnny Rockets' Minis and Doubles (360 North Bedford Road, Mount Kisco): Johnny Rockets promises fun for the whole family, and what could be more fun than Johnny Rockets' mini burgers. From the appetizer menu, order 3 of these tasty sliders topped with mayo, pickle and special sauce, or from the children's menu, order 2 simplified mini burgers.
On the other side of the spectrum, Johnny Rockets' Smoke House Double offers an oversized burger with enormous flavor. Made with two fresh patties, topped with cheddar cheese, smoked bacon, crispy onion rings and Johnny Rockets' "Smoke House" barbecue-ranch sauce, this is a seriously satisfying burger.
This is a great place to go for a burger—and not just because it's the only place to go in Bedford Village. The well-seasoned and generously sized—my eight-year-old companion called it "monster-sized"—is nestled on a brioche roll with melted cheddar cheese and two strips of flavorful bacon. Frizzled onions are piled on top and spill over the sides of the burger to the plate.
It is served with hot and salty skinny fries. It is seriously delicious.

Thanks to the economy, everybody's serving burgers these days...but let's see.
The Usual Suspects
The Blazer Pub (Purdys) serves my favorite local burger with a patty the size of my clenched fist. I usually order the Blazer Burger (le, to, on, ch and ba) and it's a real joy to eat. My wife thinks it's way too much meat and finds it disgusting to watch me tear into it like a hyena.
Red Rooster (Brewster) often gets rave reviews, but to me, the burgers are overpriced and skimpy in the meat department. Their deluxe cheeseburger is more like a lettuce, tomato and cheese sandwich with a burger patty as a topping.... Needless to say, my wife loves the burgers.
A Little Further Away
If you go up Route 22 to Patterson, I like the burgers at Karen's Drive-In and Forrest Side Street Cafe. Both are reasonably priced with good sized patties. Forrest is a food truck, so it's especially pleasant on a sunny day when you have the time to eat at one of their picnic tables. If you do go to Karen's, the Mac Belly Buster breakfast sandwich is also quite filling, fun to order and delicious in that "I Can Only Eat This When My Wife Is Not Around" kind of way....
I've tried burgers at upscale places, but I will leave that to others...
IMHO, nothing beats a burger grilled at home though.
