Sean Le Floch Wins Run for the Hills Road Race
The first annual 5K, sponsored by the Bedford Hills Neighborhood Association, drew close to 100 runners.
Runners hailed from such nearby towns as Larchmont, Mahopac, Ossining and Mt. Kisco but Bedford's own Sean Le Floch crossed the finish line of the 5K course on Saturday with a victory-clinching time of 19:31.
The inaugural "Run for the Hills" race, in the works for about 9 months, was planned by the Bedford Hills Neighborhood Association. The five-year old organization aims to create social events, participate in related community happenings such as the upcoming Bedford Hill Centennial, and to provide a voice for issues affecting their village.
Contestants included Bedford Schools Superintendent Jere Hochman and Zybnek Gold, principal of Bedford Hills Elementary School. Gold's son, also named Zybnek, was one of the youngest runners to place in the top 50. He came in 36th with a time of 26:30.
The winner of the 18 and under was 15 year-old Fox Lane student Matthew Klimaszewski of Mt. Kisco, who placed 32nd, with a time of 26:17. He was edged out by his father, 49 year-old Steven Klimaszewski who placed 24th at 25:20.
The final runner completed the course, which began at the Preppy Turtle, looped up Main Street to Bedford Center Road and ended with a final stretch down Babbit, at 44:35.
Over 40 volunteers helped to execute the event, which included post-race awards for the top finishers, presented by Janet Jacobsen, BHNA president. Bananas and nutrition drinks were provided by the event's sponsors, Shoprite and Complete Nutrition, among others.
