Second Car Theft on Reservoir Road in a Month

Bedford police advise residents to not leave valuables in plain view.

Almost $1,000 in personal belongings were stolen from a car parked on Reservoir Road on April 20, Bedford police said. It's the second car theft to take place there this month.

The owner of the car reported the the theft at 2:43 p.m. after discovering a smashed-in passenger side window, apparently broken by a rock.

The owner, who had parked her car about a half-mile in from Route 22, said a pocketbook valued at $180 was taken from the front seat, along with several valuable items in the bag—an iPad, an iPod nano, medications, sunglasses and the car owner's federal and state income tax return checks, among other items.

Earlier this month police reported another automobile break-in there, where an iPad and knitting supplies were taken—also from the front seat of a car.

Long a popular spot for runners, walkers and cyclists, to park their cars before enjoying outdoor recreation, Reservoir Road is also somewhat isolated. Police Lieutenant Jeffrey Dickan advises residents to keep their doors locked and valuables hidden.

"In both of these cases, the valuables were in plain view," he said. "Keeping valuables out of sight is a precaution residents can take."
