Thank School-Related Professionals Today

Is there someone you'd like to thank? Give them a shout-out here.

On the front lines and behind the scenes in local schools, support staff help to care for students every day of the school year.

Today is New York State School-Related Professionals Recognition Day, a chance to honor the school support staff who help to keep offices humming, buses running, classrooms clean and running smoothly.

SRP's include teacher assistants, clerical aides, technology aides, monitors, bus drivers and mechanics, library aides, custodians and maintenance staff.

"School-Related Professionals are the backbone of our schools and deserve to be recognized for the work they do every day for students," said Jeani Granelli, president of the Katonah Lewisboro Support Staff Association.

Nov. 16, 2003 was the state's official SRP Recognition Day, and it's now celebrated by schools and support staff on the third Tuesday of November, according to the New York State, according to the state teacher's union.

Patch asked the community who they'd like to recognize on this day. Here are a few replies:

Carolyn Senatore Kingston: The lovely ladies of Lewisboro Elementary—Lynne Licht and Robin Burlingame. They are the best and I miss their smiling faces and kind words. Not to be outdone-Terri, Mimi, Linda and Margie at JJMS are wonderful as well.

Nathalie Barruel Dwyer: Bridget Byrnes at JJMS, who works at the front desk and is the first person to greet both students and parents who enter the building.

Meeta Srivastava: The wonderful staff at Bedford Village Elementary!! You are the best!

I'll add my thanks to Lynne and Robin at LES for their infinite patience, and to Danny and all of the staff who keep the school running safely and smoothly!
