Martha Stewart's Proposed Storage Building Meets Inspector's Approval

Planners will review Stewart's plans, plus, a proposal for a massage center and a children's chapel—beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

Wetlands inspectors agreed no special permit was needed for a new 3,200 square foot storage shed on Martha Stewart's property, following on an April 12 site visit to the site on Girdle Ridge Road.

Inspectors noted that the existing dirt road within the 100-foot wetlands buffer was stable and that access to the proposed building would not have an adverse affect on wetlands on teh 137-acre estate where Stewart lives. Their decision to not require a special permit comes with the condition that no grading would be required during the construction and no trees would be removed from within the buffer zone.

More than two stories high and measuring 40 by 80 feet, the shed would be set back almost 700 feet from Girdle Ridge Road. The shed’s dimensions—more than 20 feet high with a footprint larger than 2,500 square feet—were big enough to potentially require a special-use permit but did not violate the town’s zoning provisions.
