Unusual Suspects: Fishy Story; Backyard Politics; Sparkling Apples

Recent weird and unusual crimes in the Hudson Valley.

A brawl at the Port Chester Coach Diner Saturday led to two Port Chester men each getting charged with a felony after breaking glass partitions and a mirror. Trying to outwit police, suspect Mauricio Rodezno took cover in the diner kitchen, pretending to be on staff. But the story doesn’t end there. While officers were interviewing the suspects, two women in their group started screaming at police and got between the officers and the men. The women were then each charged with misdemeanor obstructing governmental administration.

An Ossining resident reported that his signs supporting Peter Tripodi, the Republican candidate for Town of Ossining Supervisor, were stolen. We can only assume the thief will not be voting for Tripodi.

A Port Chester woman who left her cream-colored leather couch in her driveway while she worked on her home reported the couch missing Wednesday. Also missing are four cast-iron radiators and a propane tank. The victim claims the items are worth $1,500.  

Elaine’s Seafood in Port Chester reported $4,000 in seafood stolen from its freezers. The freezer locks were broken and a back window was pushed up. This is the third burglary of the store since 2010, when 12 cases of squid and octopus valued at $1,375 were stolen. A burglar stole 240 pounds of shrimp worth $1,600 in September.

A Hastings woman informed police that every Friday for the last three weeks “male teenagers wearing gray shorts” leave an apple with a lit sparkler on her porch and head for the Aqueduct Path. Police will be patrolling the area Friday nights to try to catch the boys.

Another Hastings woman is the target of an ongoing prank, this time with eggs. The resident told police her home continues to get egged and asked them to be on the lookout for perpetrators.
