Video: Locals Find Ways to Beat the Heat

Campers at the town's day camps took to the pool to stay cool as the mercury climbed into the high 90s. Many parents kept their children home from camp or planned to pick them up early, according to Kim O'Brien, senior recreation leader for the town's

Some locals took refuge in air-conditioned spots like the library or coffee shops. Caty and Megan Pooley, sisters from North Salem, were spending as much time as possible at in Katonah before heading back outdoors.

"I'm going to a concert outdoors though, so I'll have to go outside," said Megan Pooley. "I'll bring lots of water."

Pound Ridge mom Leslie Arnow walked slowly through Bedford Village with her daughter, Harper, on their way to have lunch.

"We're just trying to stay cool inside," she said, adding that a trip to the bookstore was planned for later.

Gale Harrison, owner of the Paint Box in Bedford Hills, showed off her garden located in front of her shop. It's thriving with all the sunshine, but required some extra work this week.

"I've had to water and water. The garden—it's a lot of work and toil, but it's worth it. But it was started in 1968—it makes me and a lot of people happy."
