White Plains Attorney to Run For 89th Assembly Seat
Jeremiah Frei-Pearson (D) of White Plains hopes to take the 89th Assembly seat from Republican Robert Castelli this fall.
Running on a platform promising to "restore prosperity to Westchester", White Plains Democrat Jeremiah Frei-Pearson has announced his candidacy for the 89th Assembly District seat occupied by Republican Robert Castelli.
Frei-Pearson, 33, is the first Democrat to officially announce his candidacy. Castelli is finishing his first full term as the 89th Assembly District representative. The Republican first won the seat with a special election victory in 2010, then won re-election later that year.
A public interest attorney for White Plains law firm of Meiselman, Denlea, Packman & Eberz, Frei-Pearson said he plans to represent the district with a strong stance against unfunded mandates and hydrofracking, while supporting marriage equality and a women's right to choose.
After spending the majority of his career fighting large government interests in the courtroom, Frei-Pearson said he hopes to bring his experience to the fight against special interest groups and government policies that he says have brought property tax increases and other problems to Westchester County.
"There is a lot about our state government that needs reform," said Frei-Pearson. "You need to be willing to fight for what's right and fight for opportunity, and to not be afraid to take on government interests so we can make the tough choices that we need to make to make our government work better."
To achieve his goals, Frei-Pearson offered the following six steps he says will restore opportunity to Westchester County:
- Help cut local taxes by reducing unfunded mandates from Albany.
- Work every day to create jobs in our community and support local businesses.
- Protect our environment and drinking water by standing firmly against unsafe hydrofracking.
- Support marriage equality and a woman’s right to choose.
- Fight to reform our government by implementing meaningful campaign finance reform.
- Ensure that Westchester continues to be a great place to raise children by supporting public schools, parks and playgrounds and projects such as Muscoot Farm and the Westchester Children’s Museum.
Frei-Pearson said he hopes his stance will restore Westchester to the prominence he enjoyed while growing up in Lewisboro, Mt. Kisco and Bedford Hills. He added that the area's great schools and programs gave him and his wife, Karla, a Fox Lane High School graduate, every chance to succeed—something he will fight to maintain for future generations.
"It gave me so many opportunities as a child, and gave so many opportunities to people in my family, and I worry the way things are going that the next generation of kids aren't going to have the opportunities that I have and that my parents aren't going to have the same support as folks had when I was growing up," said Frei-Pearson.
If he receives the Democratic nomination, Frei-Pearson will take on Castelli this November in what will be Castelli's third election in less than three years. Although the Republican has built a reputation with local lawmakers for his efforts to reach across party lines during his first full term, Frei-Pearson said he views Castelli as more conservative than most people think.
He points to Castelli's votes against marriage equality as a starting point, saying he would never support a conservative stance like that in what is a mostly Democratic district.
"He paints himself as a moderate, but when you actually look at his record he is fairly conservative," said Frei-Pearson.
Outside of a brief run at public office in Queens and an internship while attending Skidmore College, Frei-Pearson said he doesn't have any official political experience and this will be his first full race for an elected position.
Viewing this as a positive, he said it is important that voters support candidates who have a proven history of standing up for political change and progress, rather than experience in the political realm. He said he hopes to use his strengths to make Westchester County a better place to live.
"This community is an amazing place, and I've spent my entire life fighting to make government work better on behalf of regular people," said Frei-Pearson. "I want to make sure that this community continues to be an amazing place."

Grew up in Westchester? I was told that Mr. Frei-Pearson is a professional politician who was born in Baltimore and moved to Lewisboro at age 16. So I googled him. Turns out that at 32 years old, he has lived in Queens for practically a decade and run unsuccessfully both for State Senate in 2009 and State Assembly in 2010. Apparently, he was too liberal even for Queens Democrats.

He looks like a perfect fit in the Sheldon Silver controlled Assembly. Do the Democrats clone their candidates with the same tired DNA ? A vote for Mr. Frei-Pearson is a vote to continue the dysfunction in Albany.

JEREMIAH HOU?
Yes, as in HARRY HOUDINI, the magician who could be in two (or in Jeremiah Frei Pearson's case three) places at the same time. Lets see, Jeremiah, an attorney by trade, claims he grew up in Westchester, but if you Google him, you will find several sources stating he either grew up in Baltimore up until 16, and other articles stating he spent part of his childhood in Queens (yes, Queens, where he also lived after law school and where, according to articles, he committed himself to serving -- not exactly the greater Westchester area of New York). So somehow Jeremiah "Houdini" grew up three places at the same time; wow, certainly classic magic; you have to love this kid for his Chutzpah. Even wilder, the articles note that Jeremiah ran twice for political office in 2009 and 2010 in New York City (When did the Westchester area become part of Bloomberg's fiefdom). Hmm, Jeremiah seems less of a Harry Houdini magician and rather another type of "Harry," as in Harry Ford, Jr. the Carpetbagger from Tennessee who SWITCHED to New York to run against our Senator Kirsten Gilibrand.

COUNCILMAN BUCHWALD THE TAXMAN
Now I am reading on the news that Councilman David Buchwald from White Plains is running for our 89th Assembly District seat. David Hou? Again, another Houdini, who is a CORPORATE TAX LAWYER for a large law firm in New York City. Great, we need another tax attorney in Albany, like we need holes in our heads. Really, a tax attorney for the Assembly seat? Is he somehow better than Jeremiah, a corporate attorney? A tax attorney would probably only create higher taxes for us and complicate our state tax code. Lovely, two clown attorneys.

CURRENT ASSEMBLYMAN BOB CASTELLI
As many of you know, Bob Castelli, a moderate Republican, who is a fiscal conservative yet has (unlike Republicans in Congress) supported bipartisan legislation to correct dysfunctional state politics, recently got elected for the seat in 2010. Upon review of Bob's website (www.bobcastelli.com), he has always lived in the Westchester area with his extended family, served as a New York State police officer, is a small business owner and college professor, a father of two sons, one who is in the U.S. Army Special Forces and the other an ordained minister, and Bob is a Vietnam veteran. I doubt Jeremiah "Houdini" or Buchwald the Taxman have ever served our country.
CONCLUSION
Right now, its simple:
Kick Jeremiah the Carpetbagger back into his magic Baltimore-Queens-Westchester box to do tricks elsewhere
Say NO to Buchwald the Taxman (we don't need another tax attorney to increase our taxes to pay for dysfunctional past policies)
VOTE BOB CASTELLI - a family man who has served us with integrity

Mr. Frei-Pearson, Do all of us (Citizens of the 89th NY Assembly District) a favor. Please, we don't need another liberal democrat who would say anything to get a headline. You already look like a fool.
Assemblyman Bob Castelli is a not an average Public Servant that you see around. He is a fine human being, who loves to serve his country and community. Bob served honorably during the Vietnam War and followed by the New York State Police and a College Professor.
Bob Castelli puts his constituents above politics. He is doing a fabulous job as State Assemblyman.
I have faith in the people of the 89th AD. I believe in them. And I know they will re-elect Bob Castelli 2012.
SAY NO Frei-Pearson - We don't need him.
Also, SAY NO MORE TAX to a TAXMAN.
Bob Castelli- A real man with real plans for the 89th AD.
