Fashion journalist and Bedford resident Joyce Corrigan comes to the rescue with "Marie Claire Outfit 911."

Most of us will need to make a “fashion 911” call sometime. Joyce Corrigan, Bedford resident and author of the book, “Marie Claire Outfit 911,” believes that solutions to most of your dressing dilemmas can be found in her new style manual. “I wanted to help people transform their look and stand out a little,” she said. “The point is to work with what you’ve got—whether you are at a wedding, in the boardroom, on a date, or on the red carpet—there are ways to tweak your look for the better.” The writer, television commentator, former editor-at-large and current contributor to Marie Claire magazine is a veteran in the fashion journalism business. Westchester Chinese-American Community Welcomes the Year of the Dragon [VIDEO]

Approximately 500 people gathered to welcome the year of the dragon at the Westchester Association of Chinese Americans' 23nd annual Chinese New Year program at New Rochelle High School on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Hui Huang of Croton-on-Hudson and Erqian Na of Yonkers hand-rolled, filled and steamed dumplings for an eager crowd of children in the cafeteria at New Rochelle High School on Saturday. "You like them, yes?" Huang asked Brian Chin, 5, of Mamaroneck as he and his brother Ethan, 8, took turns crimping the doughy edges of the dumplings. "Be careful, it's hot," she warned Katie Yacoub, 11, of Eastchester. Nearby, Eileen Wang of Valhalla played a modified game of peekaboo with her 3-year-old daughter Emma who was trying on an elaborate, child-sized lion mask at the dance workshop. Although the Westchester Association of Chinese Americans hosts the event, the gathering is a combined effort bringing together sponsors TD Bank and PepsiCo as well …

Enchanted and Enchanting: Opera from the MET [Video]

The latest Live-in-HD-Met-Opera is a tempestuous dream (Shakes.).

Catch the encore of this delightful Opera in HD on Feb. 8 at 6:30 PM at City Center 15 in White Plains and NewRoc 18 in New Rochelle.  A delightfully entertaining surprise: the Movie World-Premiere of The Enchanted Island, the newest opera in the Live-at-the-Met-in-HD series that took place on Jan. 21 locally and in more than 1,600 movie houses around the globe.  Surprising also in that there was quite a huge audience despite the debilitating snowstorm raging at matinee time. It proves again that we have a vast number of truly dedicated opera lovers in Westchester.  The Enchanted Island is a pastiche of arias by Handel, Vivaldi, Rameau and several lesser-known Baroque composers. All are offered to us (in English,) via a clever libretto …

It sounds totally wonderful, and I can only regret not having seen it, but we prefer to see opera at the Met and view the entire stage all the time--andere Laender, usw--. However Marlies' fascinating articles make me wonder whether we may be mistaken. Joseph B. Russell   more ›

Photos: Food and Fashion Take Center Stage in Bedford Show

Bedford women took a break from busy weekday routines to check out spring fashions at the Bedford Post.

Though locals have barely felt the effects of winter, many turned their thoughts to spring on Wednesday at the "Spring Fashion in the Farmhouse" luncheon and fashion show at the Bedford Post Inn.  Sixty women enjoyed a three-course lunch and preview of Carlisle and Per Se designer Susan Klope's spring 2012 collection, modeled by three professionals and four businesswomen from Bedford and nearby. "We wanted everyone to see the clothes on 'real' women—women they knew and trusted," said Lori Brodsky, events coordinator at the Bedford Post. "This collection is very wearable, and not just by 6-foot tall models." One group of women—seated at table eight, along with this reporter—said they came to see the clothes, and each other, pausing from …

John Jay Grad Solos for 'Harvard Callbacks' [Video]

Johanna Lewis, a 2011 graduate, auditioned for and nabbed the solo in the a capella group's version of "Kiss From a Rose."

Johanna Lewis graced the stage of the John Jay High School auditorium last year as Ariel in the school's production of "Footloose."  Now she's under the spotlight at Harvard University as a lead singer in the school's a capella group, The Harvard Callbacks. We checked in with Lewis to ask about her life at Harvard and what she misses about her home in Katonah. A video of her solo is posted with this story. Patch: Tell us about your life at Harvard! Lewis: I am really loving my life at Harvard. I'm busy almost every day and my schedule is filled with school work, extracurricular activities, and spending time with friends. It also takes a lot of time caring for yourself, which I never realized. I guess I took for granted how nice it was …

Special St. Matthew's Art-Show Event Moved to Today

Kids can create clay houses which will form a miniature village.

A family activity  called “It Takes A Village,” where kids will create a clay house to be a part of a miniature village, will take place today at St. Matthew’s Church as part of the annual art show.  It was moved from Saturday because of the snow. Click here for details.
