A New Chance Animal Rescue Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary

Believe it or not, this week we are celebrating the first anniversary of A New Chance Animal Rescue and as we do, we remember our initial group of 17 dogs pulled one year ago from North Carolina shelters only two days before the annual pre-Christmas mass euthanasia they perform to clear the facilities for the holidays.  During this time, we have been able to rescue 88 dogs (pictured here), including 11 from Puerto Rico.  We know that this achievement is shared with many, from our adopters who provide the happy ending to the lonely journey of a homeless dog, to our heroic foster families who allow us to save each new life, and, of course, our wonderful local volunteer community who repeatedly donate and discount their time and services.  
Without veterinarian Dr. Leonard Fox, owner of Fine Animal Hospital in Bedford Hills, and his wonderful staff, we never could have afforded the medical attention some of our needier dogs required.  With their unsparing kindness, competence, and generosity they have helped us save lives we otherwise would have lost.  Likewise, Dr. Sarah Cutler, owner of At Home Vet Care, has so charitably provided care for our dogs as well.  Both she and Dr. Fox have been instrumental in helping us develop our regular medical protocol and we are extremely grateful to them.  Additionally, our local pet store, The Pet Pub in Bedford Hills, has bountifully contributed bag after bag of food and other supplies, and is a welcoming locale for many of our adoption events.  And last but not least on our roster of small business volunteers are the local dog grooming facilities, Wipe Your Paws in Mt. Kisco and Pawfection in Bedford Hills, who donate their services and work miracles for the more disheveled of our newcomers.  

Our thanks also go out to those individual volunteers who have contributed so enthusiastically to our mission:  Patricia Barry of Katonah, owner of Graphics 4 Good, who offers far more than her incredible graphics talent; photographer Denise Cregier, who takes art-worthy photos of our new arrivals; trainers Doreen Rossi of Angel Paws Dog Training and Sue Schaevitz of Down Doggie Dog Training Services, who have been incredible resources to our foster homes and who always seem to understand what a dog needs; and finally, Tricia Freeman of Katonah, Kathy Boyle of Pound Ridge, Pam Ridder of Golden's Bridge, and the Hauptman's of Chappaqua who have been absolutely invaluable to us in getting our message out and in loving our mission as much as they love our dogs.  Of course, to all of our very generous donors, foster families, and volunteers:   we are immensely grateful to you for helping to give all of these 88 dogs "a new chance."  Everyone plays a role in the process of saving a dog, and it could not be done without each and every one of you.  Our community has consistently offered us kind words and profound gestures of support that have truly touched us. We are thrilled that our mission has positively affected so many wonderful dogs and so many loving families, and we look forward to expanding our efforts in the coming year.
