An emerging local band, the Aardvarks, rocked the house at MTK Tavern on Saturday night.
In the past eight years of living in Northern Westchester, I have never seen so much rollicking fun as locals cheered and danced to Beatles hits. Hey, Jude, is that music timeless or what? Some of our great friends came out to support my husband’s band, but there were far more folks who were just out for an evening of music and camaraderie.
They were the ones driving the endless calls for encores. Four, five, six, even more? I whisper-yelled to a friend that they didn’t have any encores—as a new band, they are still developing their repertoire. But some songs sound even better the second time around, when the excitement and jiving have kicked in. We sang along to “Helter Skelter,” “Back in the U.S.S.R.,” and “A Hard Day’s Night.”
Music is unlimited in its ability to uplift. These days are sometimes the doldrums, so much so that I cringe when I open the newspaper. Enjoying music together unabashedly is a great cure for our community spirit.
And there’s a special quality to seeing local residents perform. I’d like to check out more. So what are your favorite venues for local music?
