West Patent Elementary Gifts Its Carnations to Hospital Patients

Despite the joys of being snowbound with loved ones on this Valentine's Day, the parents of West Patent Elementary School had a dilemma this morning.  They had on hand 650 fresh carnations that were originally meant to be delivered on Friday, February 14.  As part of the PTA's annual Valentine's carnation sale, students have always enjoy purchasing carnations for their friends and staff at West Patent.  But at 6:15am on Friday, the Bedford Central community received the all-to-familiar emails, texts and phone calls that school would once again be cancelled due to poor road conditions.

Rather than let the lovely flowers wilt for no good cause, the parent association took a page from the silver linings handbook!  They called up Northern Westchester Hospital and offered to donate the flowers to all the lovelorn hospital patients and even staff at our treasured local hospital.  A few parents replaced all of the students' handwritten tags (saving them for delivery after the winter break) with new tags stating, "Happy Valentines Day from West Patent Elementary School!"

There were many thanks all around, plus Facebook cheers of support from West Patent parents who were happy to see that their purchases were not in vain.  Happy Valentine's Day to all of our dear neighbors in Northern Westchester!
