Could You Be an Elf For a Sick Child?

Friends of Karen received this letter from the mother of a boy battling a brain tumor.

Friends of Karen, a registered 501(c)(3) charity, provides vital, practical and comprehensive support at no cost to families caring for a child with a life-threatening illness in the New York Metro area.

“The most important thing that Friends of Karen provided for us was the warmest holiday of memories that our family experienced. They sent us gifts from our children’s wish lists, allowing me to stay home with the family,
baking cookies and enjoying more precious time together.”

Their “Adopt-A-Family” Holiday Gifts for Kids program makes sure that each of their sick children – as well as his or her siblings – receive items from their holiday wish
lists to make sure they have something to smile about.

"We love to put smiles on children’s faces, and our children often have little reason to smile,” says Judy Factor, Friends of Karen's Executive Director. “Imagine being the reason for a child’s happiness.  What better way to celebrate the holiday spirit than by giving to a child?”

You can help create those smiles. Please contact Denise Tredwell for details as soon as you can at 914-617-4052 or denisetredwell@friendsofkaren.org. If you don’t have time to shop, you can make a donation
on their secure Adopt-A-Family Holiday Gifts for Children donation page, and they'll do the shopping for you!

Thank you for your compassionate caring from all the Friends of Karen children!

Okay but let's focus on the charter of the BOE. The Board of Education believes its primaryRead More responsibility should focus on creating an educational environment that will help our students become knowledgeable individuals, problem-solvers, quality producers, effective communicators, wholesome individuals, collaborative workers, ethical individuals, life-long learners, and responsible, accepting and involved citizens. We remain committed to providing a high quality, well-balanced educational program that supports our faculty and staff and helps our students meet and exceed State standards as well as high district goals. It says nothing about protecting the investments of taxpayers by voting "no" on every expenditure. We need forward thinking, broad minded individuals to help guide educational direction of our schools. Keeping expenses reasonable and and in check should be a consideration by the educational focus should be primary. Although novices, Trustees Tobin and Schiff have helped true the course of the board back to the direction of education. Mr Stone who himself admitted he had never even been to a BOE meeting before deciding to run offers no sense of motivation other than Dr Treyz and his friends think he'll help shift the direction back toward finance. Mr Holbrook is no different a candidate than Mr Lipton himself was 6 years ago.
