Harvey Boys Come Close While Girls Win Big

Katonah- They say “The third time’s the charm,” but not so for the Harvey boys varsity basketball team Wednesday in their 57-53 double-overtime loss to the French American School of New York. Having lost two earlier games this season in overtime, the Cavaliers hoped for a better outcome this time, and they very nearly pulled it off.

Harvey came out with great effort and intensity, taking a six-point lead into halftime and playing well on both sides of the ball. The Cavaliers got themselves into foul trouble in the second half allowing FASNY to climb back in and eventually tie the game, sending it into overtime.

With three of Harvey’s starters fouling out, the Cavaliers were short handed in the first overtime session. When sophomore Ricky Hicks hit a 3-pointer with four seconds left on the clock, it gave Harvey a one point lead. On the following in-bounds play, however, FASNY’s Alexandre Adam was fouled with less than two seconds remaining, sending him to the free-throw line. He hit one of two which sent the game into a second overtime.

Taking advantage of Harvey’s depleted bench, FASNY came back and took the win in the second overtime taking advantage of Harvey’s depleted bench, dropping the Cavaliers to 0-7.

FASNY’S Michael Anderson had 22 points while Adam contributed 17. They were named their team’s MVPs. Junior Jake Cohn of Pound Ridge led Harvey with 17 and Hicks had 12. Cohn, Hicks, and Jesse Zubren of Pound Ridge, who scored 9, were named Harvey’s MVPs for the game.

Harvey does not play again until after the holidays.

Okay but let's focus on the charter of the BOE. The Board of Education believes its primaryRead More responsibility should focus on creating an educational environment that will help our students become knowledgeable individuals, problem-solvers, quality producers, effective communicators, wholesome individuals, collaborative workers, ethical individuals, life-long learners, and responsible, accepting and involved citizens. We remain committed to providing a high quality, well-balanced educational program that supports our faculty and staff and helps our students meet and exceed State standards as well as high district goals. It says nothing about protecting the investments of taxpayers by voting "no" on every expenditure. We need forward thinking, broad minded individuals to help guide educational direction of our schools. Although novices, Trustees Tobin and Schiff have helped true the course of the board back to the direction of education. Mr Stone who himself admitted he had never even been to a BOE meeting before deciding to run offers no sense of motivation other than Dr Treyz and his friends think he'll help shift the direction back toward finance. Mr Holbrook is no different a candidate than Mr Lipton himself was 6 years ago.
