Katonah- Life was a cabaret this past weekend at The Harvey School as the school's performing arts department revived the popular 1966 musical and Tony winner Cabaret set in Berlin in 1931.
Performing Arts Chair Vincent Alexander directed the show and designed the set to reflect the time when the Nazi Party was rising to power. Mr. Alexander also set up seating for the audience at cocktail tables to have them feel a part of the stage action.
The music was directed by the school's music teacher Andy Tyson and assisted by Christin Cooper. Melanie Gambino, the dance company director, was the choreographer for the show while middle school science teacher Marcie Hajem served as costume designer.
Among the lead actors were sophomores Olivia Bady of Katonah who played the Telephone Girl as well as one of the Kit Kat girls, and Taylor Grodin of Amawalk who played three roles, the Officer, Max, and one of the Kit Kat boys.
Special effects in lighting were created by Marcus Gregio, the middle school theater teacher. Art and Latin teacher Cris Alexander added to the aura of the set with Toulouse-Lautrec designs in painting. Also contributing to the painting design were Brittany Merola and Harvey junior Rebekah Skovron. Junior Emily Silk served as Stage Manager and was assisted by sophomore Arianna Pilla.
