Brewster, N.Y. – 5/10/2012 – This Saturday, Senator Greg Ball (Patterson – R, C) will be hosting a free Mother’s Day Brunch to honor all moms throughout the Hudson Valley at the Muriel H. Morabito Community Center, 29 Westbrook Drive, Cortlandt Manor from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
During this brunch Senator Ball will be announcing his nominee for the 2012 New York State Women of Distinction ceremony that will take place in Albany, N.Y.
Senator Greg Ball will be specifically hosting Gold Star Mother’s throughout the Hudson Valley, at his Mother’s Day Brunch, in addition to over 150 moms in his Senate District. While the day is to honor local Gold Star Mothers, the brunch is open to all Mother’s and their families that live in the Hudson Valley area.
A Gold Star Mother is a Mother who has lost a son or daughter in the war. The name came from the custom of families of servicemen hanging a banner called a Service Flag in the window of their homes. The Service Flag had a star for each family member in the United States Armed Forces. Living servicemen were represented by a blue star, and those who had lost their lives were represented by a gold star.
“Mother’s Day is a special holiday to pay tribute to the wonderful women we cherish and love, said Senator Greg Ball. “I look forward to spending this day with the inspiring and admirable mothers from the Hudson Valley including my own!”
