The Kathleen F. Marks Memorial Foundation’s first annual Halloween Masquerade Ball for Pediatric AML research was held on Oct. 26 at The Mansion at Colonial Terrace.
100 guests were greeted with a pair of fire dancers performing outside the main entrance which set the dramatic and unique mood of the evening. Upon entering the full cocktail hour, eerie classical and Halloween music set a haunting feel for guests, further adding to the ambiance.
A special treat of a tails wearing juggler entertained guests as they ate, drank and raised cancer research dollars by participating in KFM’s Holiday Raffle (tickets are still available through Dec. 12 on the foundation’s website www.KFMFoundation.org) and wine pull sponsored by Marco’s Vino, Dylan’s Wine Cellar and Colonial Terrace.
The ballroom was revealed at 8 pm and guests were greeted with a red glow, lush linens, red roses and candlelight. To commence the open of the silent auction, ballerina Emily Whelahan, a student at Dance Expression of Westchester (Peekskill, NY), performed a solo to a selection from Phantom of the Opera.
After salad and speeches, Hilary Sweeney of Wow Factor Talent of Tarrytown performed a dramatic and exciting aerial piece to a rendition of Phantom of the Opera in the Mansion’s main ballroom.
The night’s entertainment also included ballroom dance performances, group lead dances and a bonus aerial duo performance all provided by Wow Factor Talent of Tarrytown.
The magnificent five tier custom showpiece cake from Dream Cakes Bakery along with petite treat carts completed the night’s dining with a very sweet finish.
The Foundation’s first event has raised over $5,000 for Pediatric AML research, and donations are still being taken for Johns Hopkins’ Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center by mail or online through the end of November.
This event was made possible in part by Yorktown Radiation Oncology Center, The Mansion at Colonial Terrace, Chase Media Group of Yorktown and Dream Cakes Bakery of Yorktown as well as all of our journal ad supporters and guests!
The 2013 Masquerade Ball is already in the works for the weekend before Halloween October 2013 and will be held at The Mansion at Colonial Terrace once again along with another two foundation events in the spring and early summer 2013 to be announced.
