Bedford Election: What Don Scott Hopes You've Forgotten

In making your choice for Bedfordʼs next Town Supervisor, you need all the facts.
While Don Scott served on the Katonah-Lewisboro school board, the district was found to have irregularities in financial management, including fiscal oversight and payroll. He and the board approved two raises for the superintendent without inviting or notifying the public, until The Journal News exposed the lapse in procedure - Mr. Scott blamed the school district attorney, but Scott was at the helm. During his term, administrative salaries rose significantly, after he ran as a fiscal conservative. The average tax increase was over 8.5% yearly while Mr Scott served on the school board.
Mr Scott rejected five-year plans while on the school board, saying three- year plans were sufficient. Now that he is running for town office, he has embraced the five-year plan that he rejected while on the school board. What prompted his change of view?
As a district director to former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, Mr. Scott worked for a self-proclaimed tea party representative. Yet, there is not a word of his employment by Hayworth anywhere in his campaign literature. In fact, Mr. Scott has mentioned neither his Republican roots nor his ties to tea party politicians.
Mr. Scott clearly wants to reverse the direction of town government away from the transparency and accountability that are so important in representing the citizens of Bedford. His campaign literature as much as says so when it comes to keeping the public fully informed of town committee proceedings like wetlands oversight.
On the other hand, Chris Burdick wants residents to have a greater say in their local government, while continuing to find cost savings (like competitive bidding) that Democrats advanced in Bedford town government over the past several years. He was an enthusiastic proponent of the new water filtration plant that has finally brought high quality drinking water to our area, and Chris was endorsed by The Sierra Club for those and other conservation efforts.
Mr. Scottʼs campaign tells only one side of the story, hoping that voter memories are short.
The Bedford Democrats want you to know the whole story. Please exercise your right to vote on Election Day, November 5th.
