Poll: What Makes a Place Great for Trick-or-Treating?

New York came in as the second best place to go trick or treating in the country, according to an index released by The Atlantic Cities.

Got your fun size Snickers and M&Ms ready, folks? In a new index released by The Atlantic Cities, New York came in second in the country for trick-or-treating.

The top spot went to our Fairfield County neighbors, though the New York metropolitan area (New York – Northern NJ – Long Island) did edge out L.A. this year, which dropped to 7th place, according to the article. Rounding out the top three: Chicago-Naperville-Joliet, Il- In -Wi.

Criteria for the 2011 “Trick-or-Treater Index,” included, among others, the number of kids between the ages of 5 and 14 in the area, income and “creative spirit (which we measured as the percentage of artists, designers, and other cultural creatives),” writes Richard Florida. So we wondered: How is your specific neighborhood when it comes to trick or treating? Is it full of kids or are you just left with a bowl full of Kit Kats for weeks to come?

And tell us, what do you think makes a place great for trick or treaters?

Can't believe we're number 2! Katonah rocks for trick or treating—I don't know if the visitors have ever been quantified, but locals must spend hundreds of dollars on candy for the thousands that traipse through neighborhoods there!

Hi! New to the Mamaroneck/Larchmont area. Can someone tell us when people usually trick or treat with little kids (Sunday 0ct 30 or Mon Oct 31)? Thanks!
