Rapper DMX, who lives near the Bedford/Mount Kisco border, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to court documents and several media reports.

The petition, filed on Monday in federal bankruptcy court, lists assets of no more than $50,000 and liabilities of just over $1 million to $10 million. His largest unsecured debt totals at more than $1.3 million in owed child support, while his second-largest amount is a disputed judgement of more than $200,000 owed to Amusing Diversions, Inc. Other creditors include individuals intended to receive judgements, medical billing and a vehicle lease. Unknown amounts are also listed in the filing for federal and state income taxes owed.

DMX, whose legal name is Earl Simmons, lists a half-interest in his local residence, which is located on McLain St. and worth $453,702. Westchester County mapping records show that the site is located in Bedford but close to the Mount Kisco border, while court records give it a Mount Kisco mailing address. The property is also listed under secured claims, with the creditor being Compass Bank, which is based in Spring Valley.

Two contracts are listed in the filing, including one with Her Majesty's Records Inc., which is located in Vancouver, British Columbia, and a deal Universal Music Corp., which DMX disputes ever signing.

The Wall Street Journal, reporting on the filing, posted a statement from representative Domenick Nati about the matter.

“DMX’s financial strains have been inhibiting his career for several years. Poor financial management by prior representation have caused him to be ineligible to retain a passport," Nati told the paper.

Nati, the paper reports, blames representation for not making child support payments and added that the issue needs to be resolved in order for DMX to obtain a passport for an overseas tour.

FYI, before you write an article be sure to do your homework. DMX does not live on the Bedford/Mount Kisco border, matter of fact he doesn't live in NY at all. He lives in the Carolinas. Please spend more time researching. What else have you reported incorrectly??

The paperwork lists his street address as Mt Kisco, with a mailing address in South Carolina. http://www.scribd.com/doc/156968070/Dmx-Petition

I saw the paperwork. But he is a full time resident in Lyman, SC. I live next to the guy and see him daily.

My point was more to the fact that being the paperwork listed the street address as Mt Kisco, it was not necessarily reporting incorrectly on their part.

DMX does in fact own the house in Bedford, however, and he did live there at some point at least part-time. So he does have a residence in NY. Whether he actually spends time there currently is a different matter.

I understand what you both are saying. I only pointed out that he doesn't live there. I talk to him on a regular basis, so I was only pointing out that he doesn't live there. Owning a residence and living there are two different things. I was only bringing to the editors' attention the information was incorrect.
