On May 28th, 1985, Elizabeth Fuller's dream came true when the legendary actress Bette Davis came to her home in Weston, Connecticut for dinner. The next day Miss Davis called to see if she could come to stay "for a night, maybe two" because of a hotel strike in New York City. Bette Davis moved in and stayed for 32 days, taking over Elizabeth Fuller's home and life and literally turning it upside down.
In this hilarious day to day account which began as a best selling book and was then adapted by Ms. Fuller to a play, the story unfolds. This is a Bette Davis that no fan could imagine; taking part in a seance, berry picking, signing autographs in a local McDonalds, and remaining every inch the superstar while riding shotgun in a rusted out Toyota. Davis was explosive, intimidating, demanding, impatient...but of course always entertaining. When the hotel strike ends, Miss Davis departs as quickly as she arrived, leaving behind a gracious thank you letter and as Bette Davis herself would say, "one HELL of a good story."
"ME AND JEZEBEL", the play, has been performed all across the country and around the world (productions are currently running in 5 different countries). Now, for one performance only at the newly renovated Cobb's Mill Inn, a staged reading featuring Broadway veteran Joel Vig and celebrated author Elizabeth Fuller (playing herself) will take place in Weston where the whole story took place. Mark S. Graham will direct. A cash bar and snacks for purchase will be available for the reading. A prix fixe menu will be available after the reading along with an opportunity to ask questions of the actors and director. Space is limited. Call the restaurant for reservations.
