Collin McLoughlin 'Knocked Out' of The Voice

Collin McLoughlin's run on NBC's reality singing competition, The Voice, has come to end.

The Bedford native and singer-songwriter was sent home after the latest "Knockout" round, when country music star Blake Shelton, a judge on the show, chose Michaela Paige over McLoughlin to continue onto the show's live rounds.

On Tuesday night—when most of the tri-state area was without power from Hurricane Sandy—McLoughlin's family found a way to watch the last episode on which he appeared.

"My husband found a way with our small generator and satellite dish to get one channel—NBC—so we all bundled in blankets in Bedford and watched the episode. Even though we knew what was going to happen, seeing the way its edited is all new—and what a surreal night to watch," said his mother, Nancy McLoughlin. "The storm did not keep the McLoughlin family from finding a way to say goodbye to our wonderful ride on The Voice."

McLoughlin sang "Breakeven," by The Script, in the knockout round, where singers are instantly eliminated after performing against one other contestant. Paige's rendition of "Love is a Battlefield," by Pat Benatar," gave her the edge, and Shelton picked her to move on, "citing her potential and passion," according to NBC's website.

Following the show, McLoughlin thanked his fans for their support.

"Love you all, thanks for the support on iTunes and on YouTube I'm getting. Best fans in the world, you are helping me chase my dream," he wrote on his Facebook page.

In an interview with Patch just before Tuesday night's show aired, McLoughlin said if he ended up going home, being on the show taught him that he has what it takes to succeed in the music business.

"I do believe in what I'm doing—I am more excited about my prospects as a writer and musician, and have learned so much about being emotionally connected on a song," he said.

He also enjoyed working with Blake Shelton, whom he described as "very funny, very normal," and without a big ego.

On maintaining his composure in front of millions of people, he said he had one goal in mind.

"I wanted to show a much wider audience what I am capable of," he said. "I succeeded in my goal of getting there, and to be in the show with all of those incredible singers was a win for me."

As a result of his participation in the show, McLoughlin gained over three thousand fans on Twitter, he said, and now he can keep those fans up-to-date with his new musical projects.

Those fans can expect a new release before the end of the year, which McLoughlin describes as "uplifting."

McLoughlin, 24, graduated from the Rippowam Cisqua School where he picked up his first guitar. He went on to graduate from the Wooster School in Danbury, CT, then graduated from Colgate University where he started the first college record label called Broad Street Records. He's on a current leave of absence from New York University's Steinhardt School of Music Management to pursue his dream of becoming a professional musician.
