Emily Downs started the game off with a bunt, reaching first on an error and was followed by the next four batters reaching base successfully. At the end of the first inning John Jay led 4-0 behind the strong pitching of Devon Novick and the unyielding defense provided by the entire John Jay team.
Danielle Autieri blasted a two run homer to right scoring Theresa Swertfager giving John Jay a 6-0 lead in the second inning. Swertfager had a great game in the field and at bat going 3-4 plus a walk, two homers, 5 RBI and 4 runs scored.
Sophmore catcher Kayla Fisher provided strong defense, also stealing 3 bases and scoring twice. Novick added 2 hits and 2 RBI.
In the 5th inning Sophmore Susan McCauley made an athletic play with an accurate throw from left field to Theresa Swertfager who relayed to Danielle Autieri to catch a runner attempting to reach third base on the hit.
The score was 11-0 going into the bottom of the 7th when Yorktown rallied for 4 runs. Devon Novick pitched the complete game. John Jay had a complete team victory winning 11-4.
