CVS May Open in Bedford Hills

Diamond Properties to seek approval for a drive-through window for a new store location.

CVS, the national drug retailer, may join the Panera Bread Company and the Marshall's Mega Shoe Outlet as the newest tenants in the Shop Rite shopping plaza at 711-741 N. Bedford Road in Bedford Hills.

CVS also operates a store just down the road, at 360 N. Bedford Road in Mt. Kisco. The pharmacy chain, based in Woonsocket, RI, operates more than 7,000 stores which fill more than one billion prescriptions per year.

Representatives from Diamond Properties, the Mt. Kisco-based property owner, will go before Bedford's planning board Tuesday night to seek a parking variance to allow for the construction of a drive-through window.

If the parking change is not approved, CVS may decide to pull the plug, according to Jim Diamond, owner of Diamond Properties.

"They'll make a decision at that time," he said.

CVS is planning to move to the north side of the plaza—now called "Bedford Green on 117." Shop Rite as the anchor tenant, in addition to Wines and Spirits of Westchester, the Pet Pub and J & M Deli, among others.

Diamond Properties acquired the 120,000 square foot shopping center in 2008. The site was in need of a facelift, he said, and they got to work right away.

"We started the renovation in 2009; the previous facade was on the building for a long time. We're finished with the façade, and have plans before the town for the parking lot and the landscaping."

Marshall's Mega Shoe Outlet opened last spring, and the Panera Bread Company is slated to open the first week in August.

The Mt. Kisco-based company owns 2 million square feet of property in Northern Westchester, including the Grand Prix warehouse at 333 N. Bedford Road, where its offices are located, and 532 N. Bedford Road, home of Pedigree Ski Shop and the World of Golf.

Okay but let's focus on the charter of the BOE. The Board of Education believes its primaryRead More responsibility should focus on creating an educational environment that will help our students become knowledgeable individuals, problem-solvers, quality producers, effective communicators, wholesome individuals, collaborative workers, ethical individuals, life-long learners, and responsible, accepting and involved citizens. We remain committed to providing a high quality, well-balanced educational program that supports our faculty and staff and helps our students meet and exceed State standards as well as high district goals. It says nothing about protecting the investments of taxpayers by voting "no" on every expenditure. We need forward thinking, broad minded individuals to help guide educational direction of our schools. Keeping expenses reasonable and and in check should be a consideration by the educational focus should be primary. Although novices, Trustees Tobin and Schiff have helped true the course of the board back to the direction of education. Mr Stone who himself admitted he had never even been to a BOE meeting before deciding to run offers no sense of motivation other than Dr Treyz and his friends think he'll help shift the direction back toward finance. Mr Holbrook is no different a candidate than Mr Lipton himself was 6 years ago.
