The is launching a campaign to bring shoppers to town from the immediate area and beyond.
"We want to encourage more consumers to come in and shop—in this economy, we need to be creative," said Cheryl Riina, the chamber's new marketing manager, recently hired to help the chamber promote local businesses. "I live in Somers, and I still have a lot to discover about Katonah."
To help new and returning customers discover all there it to know and love about Katonah, she said, the chamber is focusing on the concept of "a day in Katonah," where people can visit, have lunch, shop, grab a sweet, look for clothes, books, gifts and housewares.
"Third Thursdays" is what they're calling it, and Riina, along with Jennifer Cook, chamber member and past president, has coordinated a lineup of discounts and activities at retail locations in Katonah. The first Third Thursday is April 19.
"There is such a diversity here that you can really spend the whole day," said Riina, a Brooklyn native who has 20 years of marketing and advertising experience—including managing the promotion of the Brooks Brothers brand.
Riina said all it takes is an introduction to Katonah to fall in love with the charming hamlet.
"My husband and I were total city folks. We visited on a Sunday 14 years ago, had the vegetable lasagna at the n and said,'we’re moing here.' Six months later with the help of a broker we ended up pretty closeby," she said.
