Readers Choice: Best Spots for Staycations

Voting starts Monday and wraps up Friday morning at 9 a.m.

Memorial Day Weekend is around the corner and the summer stretches ahead. While many of us would love to take a European vacation or visit a California beach, some of us will be making our own fun right at home.

And locals lucky enough to live in the Hudson Valley region are in a tourism hot spot with destinations suitable for singles, families and adults. This week's Readers Choice poll asks you to share with your neighbors your favorite spots around town and nearby for a "staycation"—for a weekend or even just an afternoon.

We've got the list started but feel free to add your own choices in the comments.

  • in Katonah
  • Spa in Bedford
  • in Bedford
  • in Bedford Hills
  • in Sleepy Hollow
  • in Bedford
  •  in Mohegan Lake
  •  in Ossining
  • Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson
  • in Mt. Kisco
  • in Somers
  • in Cross River

Voting is open until 9 a.m. Friday. We will announce the winner at noon Friday.

Because the poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Read our Readers' Choice rules by clicking on the PDF attached to this article. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.

Okay but let's focus on the charter of the BOE. The Board of Education believes its primaryRead More responsibility should focus on creating an educational environment that will help our students become knowledgeable individuals, problem-solvers, quality producers, effective communicators, wholesome individuals, collaborative workers, ethical individuals, life-long learners, and responsible, accepting and involved citizens. We remain committed to providing a high quality, well-balanced educational program that supports our faculty and staff and helps our students meet and exceed State standards as well as high district goals. It says nothing about protecting the investments of taxpayers by voting "no" on every expenditure. We need forward thinking, broad minded individuals to help guide educational direction of our schools. Keeping expenses reasonable and and in check should be a consideration by the educational focus should be primary. Although novices, Trustees Tobin and Schiff have helped true the course of the board back to the direction of education. Mr Stone who himself admitted he had never even been to a BOE meeting before deciding to run offers no sense of motivation other than Dr Treyz and his friends think he'll help shift the direction back toward finance. Mr Holbrook is no different a candidate than Mr Lipton himself was 6 years ago.
