Bedford Chess Inc. sponsored the Bedford Chess Tournament at the Rippowam Cisqua School in Bedford Feb.12.

More than 40 youngsters ages 5-12 competed in the four-round tournament. Tournament director Damian Donovan, who also leads a chess club at Lewisboro Elementary School, among others, said the event helps to promote the game by teaching and encouraging the children to play.

"This tournament gives them the opportunity to compete against other kids they haven't played against before," said Donovan.
