Local Stars in 'Tattoo' Film, Hits Theatres Wednesday

Rooney Mara, a 2003 Fox Lane graduate and Bedford native, stars as Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo."

Rooney Mara got four body piercings for her role in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo: in her lip, brow, nose and nipple. Ouch.

Mara also competed with Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Lawrence before snagging the part of Lisbeth Salander, a character in the Stieg Larsson Milennium trilogy of books on which the film is based, according to TheInsider.com.

Mara plays a computer hacker, opposite Daniel Craig, of James Bond fame, and the pair together investigate the disappearance of a missing girl. In a recent USA Today interview, Mara, great-granddaughter of both Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney Sr. and New York Giants founder Tim Mara, said she was still getting used to all of the attention.

"I don't enjoy talking about myself. I'm a quiet person. I like to observe much more than I like to be observed. It's definitely exhausting and bizarre to have to talk about yourself all the time," Mara told USA Today. "It's a weird part of the job."

Mara was born and raised in Bedford along with her two brothers, Daniel and Conor, and her older sister, actress Kate Mara. Rooney Mara graduated from Fox Lane in 2003, and starred in only one production there. She played Juliet in Romeo and Juliet.
