1. Happy New Year!

L'Shanah Tovah!

3. Paving around town

Reminders from the town of Bedford: Mount Holly Road will be closed to through traffic between Holly Branch Road and North Salem Road to replace a brook culvert. It is expected the construction will take several days to accomplish. Mount Holly Road residents will have access, however, through traffic will not be able to transit across the excavated ditch for the duration of the project. Your patience is appreciated.

In addition, paving of Town portions of Byram Lake Road, Snyders Hill Road and Turner Lane will take place, weather permitting, the week of 9/17. Residents are advised not to park on the road when paving is being performed or the vehicle will be towed and there may be temporary delays. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please call 666-7669.

4. Stuff to do while school's out

If you're not in temple or having a New Year feast, there are activities going on around town for kids. Little Joe's Books, route: {:controller=>"listings", :action=>"show", :id=>"little-joes-books"} --> is having a craft hour on Monday at 4:15 p.m. and local libraries are open. The Katonah Museum of Art is closed Monday but is open Tuesday with its brand new exhibit. And September is one of the best months of the year to check out parish hall tonight.  Open to all ages, families, singles and couples.  Come experience the fun and good exercise of modern Western Square Dancing.  Even people who don't like to dance love square dancing.  Sponsored by Friendly Squares.

Okay but let's focus on the charter of the BOE. The Board of Education believes its primaryRead More responsibility should focus on creating an educational environment that will help our students become knowledgeable individuals, problem-solvers, quality producers, effective communicators, wholesome individuals, collaborative workers, ethical individuals, life-long learners, and responsible, accepting and involved citizens. We remain committed to providing a high quality, well-balanced educational program that supports our faculty and staff and helps our students meet and exceed State standards as well as high district goals. It says nothing about protecting the investments of taxpayers by voting "no" on every expenditure. We need forward thinking, broad minded individuals to help guide educational direction of our schools. Keeping expenses reasonable and and in check should be a consideration by the educational focus should be primary. Although novices, Trustees Tobin and Schiff have helped true the course of the board back to the direction of education. Mr Stone who himself admitted he had never even been to a BOE meeting before deciding to run offers no sense of motivation other than Dr Treyz and his friends think he'll help shift the direction back toward finance. Mr Holbrook is no different a candidate than Mr Lipton himself was 6 years ago.
