School Budget, Valentine's and Scrabble

It's 5 things you need to know Monday.

1. K-L school district budget: The Katonah Lewsiboro School District releases its proposed superintendent's budget this week. We'll have more on the proposals after today's press briefing with district officials. The budget will be presented to the school board at Thursday's board of education meeting, though no formal action will be taken.

2. Mmm...chocolate: The League of Women Voter's hosts 'a Chocolate Valentine' fundraiser Wednesday night at the Katonah Village Library. We'll have a preview of the lecture, on the history of chocolate, later today. Find out what local bakeries are providing sweet treats for attendees.

3. 141 million cards sent for Valentine’s Day: Valentine’s Day is the second most popular card-sending holiday, according to Hallmark.com, which estimates that 141 million missives get sent for the Feb. 14 holiday. With only one week to go, you may want to pop over t0 , to buy your loved ones a sweet note.

4. New Scrabble Club: Calling fourth through eighth graders for after-school fun: The Bedford Village Library offers a space for gathering to play a perennial favorite in board games: Scrabble. From 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. kids can meetup, select tiles and spell strategically. It's free but registration is required; call 914-234-3570 for more information or to register.

5. Today's sports contests: Fox Lane Ice Hockey takes on Rye Town/Harrison, hosted at Playland at 6:45 p.m. And John Jay JV girls basketball takes on Walter Panas in the John Jay High School gym at 4:40 p.m.
