Feb. Break Shrinks in Draft K-L Calendar

Plus, disco days are here again with the Fox Lane production of Xanadu.

1. February break a long weekend?

Local school districts have for 2012-13 for a few reasons: the holidays granted for time off fall on weekdays—rather than some being on weekends, when you wouldn't have to count the day off in the calendar. Plus, spring break is tied to Easter, which will come in late March next year. So trying to fit in holidays plus 182 classroom days plus conference and weather days in a finite stretch of calendar bounded by a Sept. 4 start and a June 21, 2013, finish has been...a challenge. At Thursday night's school board meeting, K-L Superintendent of Schools Paul Kreutzer released a draft calendar for next year, which reduces Feb. break to a long weekend, with Mon. and Tues. Feb. 18-19 off, and Spring Break taking place March 25-29. Kreutzer said the draft calendar will be posted to the district website on Friday.
