Northern Westchester GOP Candidates Night

The Northern Westchester GOP, an informal group comprised of the Republican town committees in Bedford, Lewisboro, North Salem, Pound Ridge and Somers, and the Northern Westchester Conservatives are holding a joint, "Meet the Candidates Night" featuring special guest George Oros, chief of staff to County Executive Rob Astorino, at Le Château Restaurant in South Salem.  Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, State Senator Greg Ball, Assemblyman Bob Castelli and State Senate candidate Bob Cohen are expected to attend, along with local and judicial candidates.

Andrea Rendo, chair of the Lewisboro Republican Town Committee, said the idea came out of the monthly breakfast meetings held by the northern Westchester committee chairs to discuss local issues.  "While we most often operate at the municipal level, we realized that the issues we discussed, from runaway property taxes and the onerous unfunded mandates passed down from Albany, to the illegal manner in which the HUD housing settlement is being forced upon local communities, were common to all of us," she said.

Bedford vice-chair, Luke Vander Linden, agreed.   "Republican success in the past several elections has ended the dysfunction in Albany, and with the passage of the Governor’s 2% tax cap and the partial reform of the MTA tax, this success has brought meaningful reform," Mr. Vander Linden said. "But much more needs to be done, and special interests in Albany, White Plains and New York City continue to threaten progress at every turn," he warned.

Le Château is located at 1410 Route 35 in South Salem at the intersection of Route 35 and 123. The event begins at 7 PM.  The cost is $55 per person ($100 per couple) in advance, $60 per person at the door.*  Admission includes one cocktail and hors d’oeuvres.  Business attire is preferred.  For further information or to obtain tickets call 914-763-9213 or e-mail info@LewisboroGOP.org.  PayPal is available at www.LewisboroGOP.org.  Checks may be mailed to Lewisboro Republican Town Committee, P.O. Box 360, South Salem, New York (please allow time for receipt).

Okay but let's focus on the charter of the BOE. The Board of Education believes its primaryRead More responsibility should focus on creating an educational environment that will help our students become knowledgeable individuals, problem-solvers, quality producers, effective communicators, wholesome individuals, collaborative workers, ethical individuals, life-long learners, and responsible, accepting and involved citizens. We remain committed to providing a high quality, well-balanced educational program that supports our faculty and staff and helps our students meet and exceed State standards as well as high district goals. It says nothing about protecting the investments of taxpayers by voting "no" on every expenditure. We need forward thinking, broad minded individuals to help guide educational direction of our schools. Keeping expenses reasonable and and in check should be a consideration by the educational focus should be primary. Although novices, Trustees Tobin and Schiff have helped true the course of the board back to the direction of education. Mr Stone who himself admitted he had never even been to a BOE meeting before deciding to run offers no sense of motivation other than Dr Treyz and his friends think he'll help shift the direction back toward finance. Mr Holbrook is no different a candidate than Mr Lipton himself was 6 years ago.
