Katonah Poetry Series Welcomes Poet Christian Wiman
KPS looks
forward to welcoming poet Christian Wiman, who will read from his work on
Sunday, March 16. Editor of the prestigious Poetry
Magazine from 2003 to 2013, Wiman is the author of three books of poetry and
two collections of essays. Diagnosed in 2005 with a rare form of blood
cancer, Wiman’s writing explores complex issues of keeping faith—in religion,
poetry and the world— in the face of mortality. According
to Booklist, Wiman is “Exquisitely
aware that every thing on earth, no matter how hard used, channels the
mysterious force that makes atoms dance and hearts beat…”
Wiman’s recent poetry collection, Every Riven Thing (2010) was chosen by The New Yorker’s Dan Chiasson as one of the year’s ten best poetry collections. His essay collection, My Bright Abyss (2013), has prompted interviews by Bill Moyers and Krista Tippett (On Being). Wiman received both the Ruth Lilly and Wallace Stegner fellowships and was recently appointed to the faculty of the Yale Institute of Sacred Music as Senior Lecturer in Religion and Literature.
