Lewisboro Library Fair

LIBRARY FAIR NEWS

Hear ye, hear ye! The 53rd annual Lewisboro Library Fair will be held on Saturday, September 21 from 10 am to 4 pm at Onatru Farm (99 Elmwood Road in South Salem).

In addition to the giant Attic Treasures, Book and Toy sales, AND ENERGIZE LEWISBORO, this popular community event also features a car show, children’s’ games, local vendor booths, a Battle of the Bakers competition, a prize raffle and silent auction. There will also be live music that includes Chip Andrus, and  JJMS teacher Jesse Weiss' band Halfway to Sanity. An array of food is available to please the pickiest of palates, with offerings from the Lions Club and the Horse & Hound as well as homemade baked goods for sale at the Bake Sale Tent. Be sure to stop by the “Friends of the Lewisboro Library” booth, where members will be recruiting new “Friends” and selling t-shirts designed by local artist Jeff Vreeland. Be sure to test your navigating skills in our AMAZING Halloween-themed corn maze, courtesy of the Lewisboro Garden Club.

The Fair’s car show, or Concours d’Elegance, is sponsored by BMW of Ridgefield, who will be showcasing their new diesel technology.  Automobiles ranging from show cars to "backyard classics" are invited to participate. Awards are given in each of eight categories courtesy of the sponsor. All attendees receive dash plates. To register, contact Dean Travalino at 763-5393 or r5fuego@aol.com. There is no entrance fee, but space is limited. Be sure to stop by and check out the Tesla model S, their top of the line all electric sports car.

Are you a baker? The Fair’s Battle of the Bakers contest is back with a quest to find the best muffin, pie or Artisan bread baker in the area. Cooks of all ages are welcome to submit their best or most unusual fruit pie, specialty bread or muffin for consideration. Note – the item must be made from “scratch” (no mixes allowed) and should not require refrigeration. Please bring your entries to the Bake Sale Tent by noon on Fair Day for judging. If you want to pre-register or have any questions, please contact Maureen Koehl at funnyfarm2.ss@verizon.net or 763-3326. All entries will be sold at the Bake Sale Tent after judging.

The Library Fair Raffle is one of the Fair’s biggest moneymakers, and a great way to show support for your Library, while taking a chance on some great prizes – a 55” flat panel LCD HDTV, two Apple iPad minis, or dinner for two at Le Chateau. Books of five tickets are available at the Library and on Fair day for $40 or single tickets for $10 each. The winning raffle tickets will be drawn at the Library Fair. In addition to the raffle, the Fair will feature a Silent Auction, with opportunities to bid on gift baskets, services, vacation home get-a-ways and more. If you have an item or service you’d like to contribute to the Silent Auction, please contact maryshah@optonline.net.

The Fair Pre-Sales are a great warm-up to Fair Day. The Book and Toy Pre-Sale, for residents only, is Thursday, September 19 from 5 to 9 pm. The Book Pre-Sale continues Friday, September 20 from 9 am until 4 pm. New to the Fair in 2013 are a Sporting Equipment Pre-Sale and Formal Wear Pre-Sale, which will both be held on Wednesday September 18 and Thursday September 19 from 5 pm to 8 pm. Whether you need lacrosse sticks or a prom dress, be sure to check out the new offerings. For more information about the sporting equipment sale, please contact rgforbes@yahoo.com. For information or to make donations to the formal wear sale, contact theresamcavey@aol.com. All Pre-sales are also held at Onatru Farm.

The Fair is our major fundraiser. All proceeds go directly into our operating budget. We depend on the help of many volunteers to run the Fair, and are seeking volunteers to help out before and on Fair Day. If you are available to help move the books into place on September 14, or work at the Book Pre-Sale or Fair, please sign up at the library or at Libraryfair.wikispaces.com. There are many opportunities to volunteer, for people of all ages. If you love to bake, you can volunteer your culinary services by donating your favorite baked good to our Bake Sale Tent – a popular “grazing” spot for Fair attendees all day long. Items can be dropped off at the Fair or you can arrange for a pick-up by contacting Rita Schaffer at 763-8149/ senorita28@aol.com.

Vendors and Community Groups - Do you have a small business selling jewelry, crafts, home services, etc.? Showcase your business at this popular Fair! There are a limited number of vendor spaces available for $80. Download the Vendor Application here. Community Organizations may reserve space at the Fair free of charge. There is a $20 table/chair rental fee. Download the Community Application here.

Sponsors Needed - The library is seeking local businesses and individuals to underwrite the costs of producing the Fair, such as tent rentals and food and music, so more proceeds can go directly to the operating budget. If you are interested, please contact Jean McDonough at mcdonoughjean0@gmail.com or Ross Weale at rweale@optonline.net.
