Nunsense

“Nunsense” is Habit Forming

The Little Sisters of Hoboken will be in charge, this November, at the
Winery at St. George 1715 E. Main Street, Mohegan Lake NY. Nun
but those looking for good food, good wine, and a good time will be
admitted for luncheon and evening performances Sundays November
3 and 10, and dinner performances Wednesdays. Show times are
2pm and 8pm with lunch and dinner available ninety minutes before.

The proverbial show within a show, “Nunsense” is a two act musical
about a group of nuns putting on a show to raise the money needed
to bury some of their sisters, lost to a tragic vichyssoise recipe.

“As with most great plays, the comedy comes from the absurdity of
the situations that surround and motivate the characters,” said James
Gerth, Director of this production. “The great misconception about
‘Nunsense’ is that it makes fun of nuns, or Catholics, or religion.
Actually, it is nun of the above.” Gerth continued: “Nuns are people,
too, and we see that in this piece. Their hopes and dreams,
aspirations and pasts, joys and frustrations are all on display. This is
a show for Catholics, former Catholics, non Catholics, and for
everyone who likes to laugh.”

The cast and production staff are Westchester luminaries. Steve
Loftus as Musical Director said, “With five voices you need exactly
the right people, and we got them.” Victoria Lauzun as Sister
Amnesia was acclaimed for her performance of Marion in The Music
Man at Westchester Broadway Theater. Stephanie Lourenco as
Regina is also a WBT alumnus and a founding member of The Little
Radicals Theatre Company. Yorktown resident, Ashley Wool as Sister
Robert Anne, Raquel de Souza as Sister Hubert and Kristina Brooks as Sister Leo complete the quintet of very strong singers.

Kristina Brooks wins the 2013 prize for longest commute to
rehearsals. Originally from Pleasantville, She had moved to Maryland
after completing her Masters degree in D.C. “When a friend of hers
told her of this production, and we saw how talented she was, the
commute became secondary,” said Gerth. “We adjusted the schedule
so she would spend 4 days with us and be back home for 3.” “Quite
simply, I have a true passion for performing, and there just aren't
enough miles to keep me from doing what I love.” said Brooks.

An additional unique feature of this production is the venue. It is being
performed at the Winery at St. George, which was the former St.
George Church on Route 6. The nuns will seem right at home
amongst the high stone walls with stained glass windows and the
vaulted cathedral ceilings with heavy wood beams.

The Winery at St. George has made an effort to preserve the
beautiful architecture of the building while making it a comfortable
and elegant venue for food, drink, and entertainment. “Nunsense” is
being produced by Infinity Rep and Three Amigos Productions.
