The Boxwood Alliance Announces Older Adult Health Fair this Fall

The Boxwood Alliance announced today that it will be sponsoring a Health Fair for Older Adults and their adult children this fall at the Somers Library.  The Boxwood Alliance is an "aging in place" organization that helps older adults and their families in Northern Westchester and Putnam Counties to find supportive services and programs that will help older residents to remain safely and confidently in their own homes as long as possible. The Fair will be offered on Wednesday, September 25th between 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM at the Somers Public Library.  Featured will be vendors and providers that specifically gear their services to older adults.  Catherine Wynkoop, Chairman of the Boxwood Alliance, said that the organization encourages older adults from Somers and surrounding communities to attend. "We want people to be aware of the excellent resources right in our own backyard that will assist older adults to age in place". This Health Fair will be held during Active Aging Week, an annual event the last week of September, which this year is September 22 to the 28th.  Initiated by the International Council of Active Aging (www.icaa.cc), the annual week-long celebration highlights program and service options available to older adults throughout their communities. ICAA promotes active aging, an approach to aging that helps older adults live as fully as possible across all dimensions of wellness. During Active Aging Week, host organizers, like the Boxwood Alliance, celebrate and promote free community activities for older adults throughout the region.  Watch the activities calendar grow at http://www.theboxwood.org/events.
