The FIne Art of Jazz

Reception
Thursday, February 20, 2014
5 - 8 pm

Art, in its most basic form, is a conduit in which we communicate our desire to be a part of something greater than ourselves.  It cannot be defined as notes on paper or paint on canvas alone.  All art, from music to theater to the visual arts, is a living, breathing expression of the human mind and the world around us.

Jazz has greatly impacted our world since its birth in the early 20th century.  Over the years, it has evolved into a transformative power; encouraging understanding, inspiring social change, nurturing cultural equality and stimulating artistic innovation.  It has infused our local and global worlds.  It is one of our most deepest forms of expression.  It is an experience of the mind, heart and soul.

Our collection of charcoals, lithographs and watercolors display the energy and excitement of this musical genre.   Brass, woodwind, string, percussion and piano players capture the environments of jazz from the smoky lounges of the 1950s to the concert halls of today.
