Dutchess County Field Trip to the Trevor Zoo, Innisfree Gardens, and McEnroe Organic Farm With Bedford Audubon’s Joan E. and Peter Becker
The six-acre Trevor Zoo, established in 1936 on the grounds of the Millbrook School, houses more than 120 exotic birds and animals, including seven endangered species. Exhibits feature birds of prey, bamboo groves sheltering red pandas and Asian deer, reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, and much more. Our next stop is the 150-acre public Innisfree Garden, where the ancient art of Chinese landscape design has been reinterpreted to create a unique American garden. We will picnic here, enjoy streams, waterfalls, and terraces, and stroll from one three-dimensional picture to another. A final treat will be our visit to McEnroe Farm, famous for its diverse selection of local, seasonal and organic goods as well as prepared foods. Modest entry fees to Zoo and Garden. Bring lunch. Level of difficulty: Easy.
