Bedford Campers Make a Splash

Campers enjoyed their first week at Bedford's town camp.

After starting their first week of camp last Monday amid temperatures just over 60 degrees, children enrolled in Bedford's town camps enjoyed extra time on the pool on Friday when the mercury rose well into the 90s.

In Bedford Village, the first part of the week included plenty of time for campers to get to know each other, and their counselors, said Katie Lanning, assistant director of the camp, which is one of the three day camps operated in each hamlet through the

"It all came together pretty smoothly," said Lanning, who is completing a master's degree in special education. "They're having a great time. This camp really offers something for everyone."

Activities for the campers—children in grades 1 through 5—include athletics and arts and crafts and special activities like visits from magicians, theme days and trips to nearby amusements such as Lake Compounce and the movies.

On Friday, the counselors were in and out of the water with campers, playing games with them and running instructional swim and relay races in the pool.
