Bedford Hills/Katonah Little League Gets Funds to Replace Lighting

A grant from a fund supported by Major League Baseball plays a big role.

The Bedford Hills/Katonah Little League announced that it has gotten the funding needed to replace field lighting damaged last year by Superstorm Sandy.

This includes a grant of $78,250 from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund, which is supported by Major League Baseball and its players' association. BHKLL also secured $50,000 from NYSEG through its Economic Development Emergency Program, along with $85,000 in money raised.

According to BHKLL, Sandy took down a wooden light pole and a set of bleachers was crushed. There were four poles left but they were determined to be unsafe and were removed. This left BKHLL without lighting - games are played at Joseph A. Frank Field in Bedford Hills - for the first time in three decades, according to the league.

“This is a very bright day for BHKLL. The efforts of so many and countless hours of dedication will come to fruition next spring as night baseball will be back. Our Little League is stronger today due to the Baseball Tomorrow Fund, NYSEG and the generosity of the BHKLL supporters. If your passion drives you to do good, great things can happen,” David Morabito, a coach and fundraising committee member for BHKLL said in a press release.

The fund is partnering with Musco Lighting, Inc. to provide new equipment at a discounted price, BHKLL announced.

“The Baseball Tomorrow Fund is proud to assist Bedford Hills/Katonah Little League in their recovery efforts from Superstorm Sandy,” Cathy Bradley, the fund's executive director said in the release. “The league’s ability to play under the lights is an important part of their youth baseball programming and their community. A special thanks our partner, Musco Lighting, Inc., for its quick response and consultation to Sandy-affected leagues throughout the region.”

An official from Musco was proud of the company's involvement.

"Musco is proud to partner with the Baseball Tomorrow Fund in an effort to help Bedford Hills/Katonah Little League (BHKLL) rebuild after the devastation of Superstorm Sandy," Don Rhuda said in the press release. "We are honored to be able to supply the lighting for BHKLL, helping them bring back the lights to their community."
