Westchester Dining: La Crémaillère in Bedford to Host Wine-Paired Dinner

“Some Enchanted Evening,” a wine-coupled, prix-fixe dinner, will be held at La Crémaillère Restaurant in Bedford on Thursday evening, Jan. 31, beginning with a champagne reception at 7 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m.

On hand to describe the wines and the exotic grapes that produce them will be Anne-Charlotte Melia-Bachas from the Rhône Valley’s Château de la Font du Loup (a winery named after the Mont Ventoux wolves who came in ancient times to drink from its rivers and waters). Robert Oliver Meyzen, the charming owner of La Crémaillère, will oversee the evening’s events.

Wines to be tasted include four different Châteauneuf-du-Pape vintages (2004, 2009, 2010 and 2011).

The restaurant is widely recognized for its attention to fine wine. Its cellar has 14,000 bottles including well stocked shelves of French Bordeaux and Burgundy wines and American wines from vineyards in Napa Valley, Sonama County, and Washington State.

For a main course, diners will chose from:

1. Maine lobster, Gaufrette potato, coulis of fennel
2. Sautéed halibut, braised cabbage and carrots, Madagascar vanilla sauce
3. Roasted loin of lamb, herb goat cheese, mashed potatoes, green olive red wine reduction

The meal also includes a fromage trio, a Grand Marnier soufflé for dessert, petits fours and Café, Thé. The champagne to be served is Rosé Champagne, Voix de la Terre Brut Elegance, Nicholas Maillart.

The cost of $115 per person does not include tax or gratuity.

Mayzen is a descendant of the French restaurant royalty that once was so much a contributor to the dining fame of Manhattan. His father, Robert Louis Meyzen, was a co-founder of the legendary French restaurant La Caravelle, consistently rated four stars by the New York Times in the 1960s and one of yesteryear’s favorite dining establishments for high society members.

The Bedford restaurant occupies a charming white clapboard farmhouse formerly known as the "Widow Brush House," built in 1750 and renovated and expanded many times since. Photographs dating back 100 years or more of the house and its occupants appear on several walls.
